“Beautiful music is the art of the prophets that can calm the agitations of the soul; it is one of the most magnificent and delightful presents God has given us.”
– Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
In This Episode
I’m going to share an amazing tool with you that is scientifically proven to increase your ability to focus on whatever you’re doing. It will take you from distracted to intensely focused almost instantly and it’s all driven by the amazing beautiful world of music.
Music Helps Us Focus
Have you sat down to read a good book and thought “wait, let me put on some great music first?”
It just helps you get focused, drowns out the background noise of life and let’s you dig deep into your book.
The Theory Behind Focus @ Will
That’s what the founders of Focus @ Will decided to study
They did this for 2 years with 200 alpha participants.
What they discovered is that the right music not only helps you stay focused, ignore distractions but also helps you retain what you’re reading or working on.
They actually discovered the optimum time to have music oscillate in patterns that help you stay focused.
So just as your mind is starting to drive, the music shifts it’s pattern and grabs your minds attention so it can stay focused.
Focus @ Will does this by soothing your Limbic System which is the part of the brain scientists believe is responsible for constantly being altert and on the lookout for dangers. This is what causes you to notice every single sound, like or even scent in the air.
Different Patterns for Different People and Situations
Alpha Chill – This is what I listened to while I was writing the outline and show notes for this episode.
There’s also classical, spa sounds, cinematic and even a beta test of a special channel just for people with ADHD.
If you like ambient sounds, you can have that too, with the sounds of water flowing.
When I’m on my computer, I just go straight to the Focus@Will website and let it stream on one of my tabs. You can also load it up on your Apple iOS or your Android device. It’s great to take along with you if you’re heading to just walk and think. I love this because there’s no distractions from lyrics. It really does help with my creativity.
Free or Premium Service
There’s a 100% free program that offers you up to 60 minutes of music from each channel. But, realize, each time you use it, it will play the same stream of music, so you may eventually need some variety.
There’s also a pro version which gives you access to the entire library of music, over 50,000 tracks. The pro version also gives you an intensity control, a productivity tracker and it allows you to use it on multiple items at once. Which means, you can be on your computer, your kid can be studying with it on her iPhone and your spouse is reading a book with it on their tablet.
It cost between 4-5 dollars per month depending on whether you go with the yearly or monthly plan. Compared to Netflix, a cable bill, or even a single fast food meal, this is well worth the cost. It will BOOST your productivity.
I don’t use it every time, but I tell you, I should. Whenever I use it, I crank out my work and wonder why I’m not using it every minute I’m at my desk.
You can check it out at PDesmondAdams.com/focus@will **That IS an affiliate link which will pay me a very small amount for referring you. So I want to make sure you know that.
Try it out this weekend and let me know what you think of it. Just comment below and let me know.
Looking forward to your thoughts.
