Ep. #45 – Harness the Power of a Master Mind
“No two minds ever come together without, thereby, creating a third, invisible, intangible force which may be likened to a third mind.”
– Napoleon Hill – Think and Grow Rich
In This Episode
You’re going to learn about an incredibly powerful resource you have at your disposal, which will most likely cost you nothing more than a bit of your time and energy. It will create for you a storehouse of creative energy and mental resources, the whole of which will far exceed the sum of the parts involved. You’re going to learn about the power of a mastermind.
The Power of a Master Mind
I have to be 100% honest, I read Napoleon Hill’s Think and Grow Rich when I was 18 years old. I read chapter 10 – The Power of the Master Mind, but I didn’t put this to use until much more recently. I had impromptu or casual Master Mind groups but never a mind-trust… never a group who would intentionally meet to be a real master mind.
Napoleon Hill describes a Master Mind as: “a mind that is developed through the harmonious cooperation of two or more people who ally themselves for the purpose of accomplishing any given task.”
Because thought is energy, Napoleon Hill taught that the combining of two or more minds, which were in harmony with each other and focused on a single unified goal, would create a third mind or third layer of energy… a master mind. This goes beyond just what we attribute to the name today, it refers to a higher level of thought or mind energy which transcends our material world and connects us in a powerful way to our Universal mind, or if you wll, the Mind of God.
In the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus is quoted as saying: “Again, truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.”
When we grasp the concept that “Our Father in Heaven” more accurately refers to that Universal Mind above… in heaven, not some cloud or castle in the sky, but that mind above our mind. That creator above our creation. The source of everything we have here on earth, is that creative power above our creative power.
How To Create a Master Mind
Find a group of like-minded people. These don’t have to be people in your same industry, in fact, it may be beneficial to have a diverse group with the ability to apply thought processes and ideas from one industry to another, in a way that hadn’t been considered before.
To be like-minded simply means to have the same drive, ambition and mindset about work, creativity and success. Do not bring in someone who “needs the group” as there’s most likely a very good reason they need the group… because they lack the mental fortitude the members of the group already have. This isn’t about intelligence, but about mindset.
Have a Goal
The group should have a supreme goal. Is it refining your existing ideas and bringing them into existence or is it to use your collective creative energies to develop new ideas? Maybe it’s simply to keep each other accountable. Whatever it is, have the goal clearly stated. Remember, the goal of the group may change 6 months from now, just make sure everyone is on the same time and in agreement.
Have a Schedule
Set a day and time when the group is committed to meeting. It may be once a month, or weekly. Whatever it is, make sure everyone understands it’s a serious commitment. I know of some master mind groups which, if you miss two meetings in a row, they’ll give serious consideration to dropping you from the group.
Create a time limit for the group. Don’t let the meetings go on until everyone is done, instead set the end time for the meeting. People’s time must be respected and they must know when they make that serious commitment to the group, they know what it will cost them, at least timewise.
Layout how your Master Mind meetings will go. Some people like to have one person on the hot seat each time and the group puts together their collective energy to help them move forward as far as possible. Other groups like to give each member X number of minutes to talk about anything they need to bring to the master mind.
Create Times for Review
You have to realize, people and situations will change over time. One member may have grown beyond the scope of the master mind and doesn’t find him or herself in harmony with the intention of the group any longer. Or maybe it’s the other way around.
There must be no hard feelings by the group if someone says they’ve decided to move on the from the group. In fact, it’s a good idea to have these meeting pre-scheduled so people know, they are in it for X number of weeks or months… and they don’t have to have an open ended commitment.
Get Started This Week
Start talking to people you know in your industry, or people who you know are as ambitious as you. Begin to ask if any of them think they could benefit from this. Even if you don’t have it all layed out perfect to start… get started. It will grow, shift, and morph into something fantastic. The power of the master mind can even be applied to the master mind itself.
I’m a member of a 3 person Master Mind and I can say, it has contributed more to my success than just about anything else I’ve done in the past 10 years. I know, if you’re not in a Master Mind, this can be a hard thing to understand, but it will eventually become the reality for you as well, if you’ll just get started today.
